Top 20 Reasons to Commit to the 3-Day in 2020

2020 isn’t just a new year. It’s also a new opportunity to become part of something larger than yourself and make a difference that will enrich your own life, as well as the lives of those affected by breast cancer. Susan G. Komen needs each and every one of you to be a part of our 3-Day family this year!

If you need a bit more motivation to join the 3-Day community in 2020, we have a few all-encompassing reasons to #Commit3Days and join the 3-Day NOW! Here’s the breakdown…

  1. New decade, new goals: If you want to make the most of the ’20’s, completing the 3-Day is the perfect achievement to get you started on your best decade yet!
  2. Visit a new city: We are so excited to bring the 3-Day back to Chicago this September! Who’s joining us to take the Windy City by storm?
  3. Re-visit old favorites: In addition to Chicago, we’re also returning to New England, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Diego. These spots are 3-Day favorites and we can’t wait to visit them again!
  4. Tons of fun: We promise! The 3-Day is a long journey, but it is definitely a fun one that you will never forget.
  5. Get those steps in: Lots of people make a wellness goal for the new year, and the 3-Day is the perfect way to keep those resolutions. We have organized training walks and an easy app to help!
  6. Make new friends: Join a new team or expand your existing one! If you’ve walked alone before, talk with the 3-Day coaches about how to find or build a team. The 3-Day welcomes one and all!
  7. Hotel relaxation: If you didn’t love the idea of camping outdoors, that doesn’t have to keep you from joining the 3-Day anymore. Our New England, Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth 3-Days all have hotel camps for a whole new level of relaxation!
  8. Tasty treats: Hello, Grahamwiches! We love you, mac n’ cheese! And cheese sticks and fruit and chips and rice krispies and all kinds of deliciousness! Nothing motivates people quite like snacks.
  9. The 3-Day coaches: We really couldn’t do it without them! Your coaches are your cheerleaders and reference books, trainers, fundraising support group, and more!
  10. Even the kids are doing it! And by “kids” we mean the amazing Youth Corps, who support walkers and crew throughout the whole 3-Day weekend. Their spirit and smiles alone will make the 3-Day your favorite weekend of the year.
  11. Test your limits (in a good way!): It’s important to remember the whole journey, not just the final destination. This walk will test you emotionally and physically, but also give you such a feeling of joy and excitement all along the way.
  12. It’s #trending: Our Instagram and Facebook communities are their own special corners of the social media universe, full of fun and inspiration. They’ll keep the 3-Day spirit alive in your heart all year long.
  13. Dance parties: A whole weekend of them! Nothing warms the heart and spreads smiles like busting a move with your favorite people 😊 Start practicing with these tunes!
  14. A feeling of accomplishment: There truly is no feeling like crossing that 60-mile finish line and knowing that you have made an impact in the fight to end breast cancer. You have trained, fundraised, volunteered time and energy, and it all leads to that amazing moment.
  15. Serious inspiration: This experience is one of a kind! Hearing from our breast cancer survivor speakers, meeting those who have lost loved ones or been saved by Susan G. Komen funded research; all these experiences will leave you feeling motivated and inspired.
  16. Make a difference: The net proceeds raised by the 3‑Day help Susan G. Komen build a world free of breast cancer through research, community, care and action. They help fund education, screening and treatment, much of it in your local communities.
  17. You gain a new family: Being a part of the 3-Day makes you a part of our big, Pink Bubble family! You will become part of something larger than yourself and make a difference in the world.
  18. Discounted registration: You read that right! You can take $20 off your registration for the 3-Day 2020 NOW — no code needed — until January 30.
  19. You can do this! More than 500,000 participants have been a part of the 3-Day community over the years, including those living with metastatic breast cancer. Yes, walking 60 miles is hard, but it’s not as hard as breast cancer. Walk with us. You can do it.
  20. There is no time like today: Why put off to tomorrow what you could do today? If you have been thinking about joining the 3-Day or have seen walkers go by in your neighborhood for years, the time to join them is NOW. What to Love About 3-Day Hotel Camp with Coach Tisho

Alert: We are less than five months away from our first 3-Day of 2019!

There is so much to be excited for this year, not the least of which is the fact that four of our 3-Days will have hotel camps in 2019! After getting such great feedback from our hotel camp in Philadelphia last year, we are expanding it for the upcoming 3-Day walks in Michigan, Twin Cities, New England and Philadelphia.

If you haven’t spent a 3-Day in one of our hotel camps yet, get excited! There is a lot to look forward to. 😊 In order to get you pumped, Coach Tisho is giving us her Top 10 Favorite Things to Love About 3-Day Hotel Camp…

  1. Beds! Actual beds with fluffy pillows and soft sheets. A full night of restful ZZZ’s for all our 3-Dayers.
  2. Climate control! No chilly nights or sweaty nights or rainy nights. Just comfy nights! This will be especially important for our events happening later in the year when Mother Nature might be more unpredictable.
  3. Dry feet! No unzipping the the front “door” to find wet, dewy grass in the morning.
  4. Quiet! No slamming port-a-potty doors in the middle of the night.
  5. Hotel showers! Bring some of your favorite shampoo and scented body wash to soak your muscles in a nice long shower at night.
  6. So many spaces! Ballroom space, lobby space, lounge space, restaurant space – tons of places to sit and relax and chat with your fellow participants.
  7. Power outlets! No more waiting at the charging station before you can go to bed. It’s the little things that make the most difference.
  8. More privacy! As much as it can be fun to yell to people in the next tent, hotel rooms make for more privacy and quiet when you need it.
  9. Storage! If you’re one of our amazing 3-Dayers who loves to rock fun outfits on event, you’ll have lots more space in closets and dressers for all your 3-Day necessities.
  10. All the fun! There are all these pro’s…plus you won’t lose any of the camp fun and festivity! It will be a new, but no less amazing, 3-Day home to arrive to after a long day fighting breast cancer. We can’t wait to welcome you home. 😊

If hotel camps aren’t your style, or you love the great outdoors, we also have 3 outdoor camps this year in Seattle, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Diego! We’ll be doing another post in the future that details all the amazing experiences you can have at our outdoor camps, so stay tuned. Indoors or outdoors, 3-Day camp is a fun place to be 😊

2018 Philadelphia 3-Day Route Preview

The Philly 3-Day is coming up this weekend, and it’s going to be an amazing three days for walking, having fun, and making memories. Our whole 3-Day team can’t wait to host our walkers, crew, volunteers and supporters for a wonderful weekend together! This year will be full of changes for our Philadelphia 3-Day family and Event Manager Melanie Toner is giving us a sneak peak of what to expect!

“All three days are brand new! Their order is new, and most of the routes are new as well. We’re thrilled about the changes!” Melanie enthuses. “We’ve tried hard to highlight new areas of the city with this updated route. You’ll see different parts of the city each day.”

Those route changes start on Friday morning with the Opening Ceremony, which will take place at our home hotel: the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing.

Melanie says, “We’re taking what is normally an outdoor event and putting it in the Grand Ballroom of the hotel. There will be elements unique to Philadelphia because it will be our first-ever indoor Opening Ceremony.”

After the Opening Ceremony, walkers will head west across the city through historic Philly to University City. We will pass Independence Hall early in the day, which will be a great way to start our walk. Walkers will then go through Rittenhouse Square; which Melanie promises is gorgeous!

From there, the new route takes walkers out to Fairmont Park, with the “Please, Touch!” Museum which will be fun for all. It’s also a great place to recommend to family members who might be coming into town to support their 3-Dayer and looking for something extra fun to do.

From East Fairmont Park, walkers will head back towards the Hilton and go into Penn Treaty Park along the river. They’ll also cross Strawberry Mansion Bridge, a beautiful location and Melanie’s favorite photo spot of the day!

After Day One, walkers will return to our new 3-Day camp at the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing. Camp is indoors this year, and the extra comfort that provides will be the perfect end to both Friday and Saturday’s walks.

“We will still have the 3-Day Lounge, the massage chairs and all those camp elements that everyone loves! You can expect to have communal dining and all the magic of 3-Day Main Street. You will have everything you love, but with controlled temperatures and all the perks and comforts of hotel life,” says Melanie. “We think our walkers and crew are going to love having the hotel showers, cushy beds and TV options to come home to after enjoying all of 3-Day camp.”

You might not want to leave your comfortable bed on the morning of Day Two, but it will be worth it!

There will be lots of similar sights to those in years past, including walking from the Hilton across the city, with a stop right in front of the Philly Museum of Art. That means you can kick off Saturday with a photo op at the Rocky statue!

Walkers will then head along the Schuylkill River with a lunch stop at Bala Cynwyd Park. This was our past lunch stop in 2016 and will be a beautiful and relaxing spot. Plus, it gives a sneak peek of the Philly suburbs.

After lunch, walkers will make their way back towards the Hilton through Belmont Plateau, where you’ll see some of the best views of the city skyline! 3-Dayers will also walk through the Philadelphia Zoo, though it will be along a different route than in year’s past, so you will make lots of new furry friends!

After another cozy night back at your hotel, Day Three will begin with a walk through Elfreth’s Alley, which has some of the oldest homes in Philly – and even the country. It’s very historic and beautiful! Franklin Square will be another stop for more American history, which you can find all weekend long.

Melanie advises, “Look out for blue placards on buildings and statues! Those denote a historical site. They make it easy to brush up on your American history as you walk!”

There will be a pit stop at Clark Park, and then walkers will loop back across the city, enjoying the Italian Market, plus both Pat’s and Geno’s Philly Cheesesteaks. Choose your favorite…or have both!

The second half of Day Three is very similar to last year and the Closing Ceremony will be in the same location at The Navy Yard. From there, we will be celebrating three glorious days, and 60 difference-making miles under the Philadelphia sun!
