What’s Motivating Our 3-Day Team Right Now?

Many of us are living in a different reality right now. Tackling new and building responsibilities, staying away from loved ones and grappling with all of the uncertainty can be a strain on your mental and physical health. During unprecedented times like these, it’s important to focus on the good: good people, good experiences, good things, good feelings.

Our 3-Day team is finding the good in their daily routines and sharing what’s working to brighten their days. We hope some of these ideas will help you, your family and your friends live a little closer to that Pink Bubble feeling.

Gayla Cruikshank, Dallas/Fort Worth 3-Day Coach

Galya Letter Motivation

“I’m mailing High Five note cards to my DFW 3-Day participants every day. It makes me smile and hope it does the same for them. I also have an external monitor with a live webcam at www.CCI.org/puppycam to watch future service dogs hanging out with their litter.”

Amy Schwager, 3-Day Crew and Volunteer Coordinator

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude for so many things. This is all a privilege. To shelter in place with the people I love. The long hikes on empty trails. Working from home. Distance learning for my boys. A fridge of food and a kitchen to cook in. It is all a privilege.

I would give anything for the catalyst to have been something else. But I continue to be thankful for the unexpected blessings during these unexpected times. It feels amazing to downshift and enjoy the little things.”

Tisho Jessop, 3-Day New England Coach

Tisho - FaceTime with Baba

“The most inspiring thing I’ve seen lately is this video. It’s so uplifting and so inspiring to think of these future doctors excited to continue on their chosen path in the midst of a global pandemic.

Also, my grandmother, who is 95, always inspires me, but right now she’s confined to her room at her assisted living facility and not allowed to leave even for meals. And yet, thanks to her facility purchasing iPads and using them to connect families, I can see her smile. If she can smile like that and not be allowed to leave her room, I can move forward with whatever today brings my way.”

Staci Roos, 3-Day Coach

Staci - Sunset

“I’m trying hard to find a “silver lining” each day; something to be grateful and thankful for. For one, I’m very grateful that we are in springtime instead of winter. While the news, isolation and fear are all palpable, to be able to go outside and see nature renewing itself, feel the wind and the chill, smell the new blooms and hear the birds, I can close my eyes and envision a day when we have reached the other side of this challenge with new appreciation for so many of life’s pleasures.

To keep myself and my family from sinking into the doldrums, we’re continuing to eat dinner together and share stories from our day, light candles, do puzzles, spruce up the garden, and get outside for walks as often as possible.”

Heather Snyder, 3-Day Coach

“My inspiration right now are my friends who are healthcare workers! Heroes in my opinion! Going to work every day knowing that they are jeopardizing their own health and that of their families. Knowing that those who test positive and recover, need to go back in the requisite amount of time with the fear of contracting it again. That has been the case with a few of my friends…. I cannot thank them enough.

My motivation right now and my “peaceful place” has been daily meditation. Prior to the current uncertainty, I never appreciated the “calm” this practice truly brings. I look forward to my 20 minutes I set aside each day and am grateful when I am done.”

Kiki Setterlund, 3-Day Crew and Volunteer Coordinator

Kiki - Finn and Evy

“What’s inspiring me these days are the two new work colleagues my husband and I have acquired for the foreseeable future. My son (Finn) and daughter (Evy) are currently on week two of distance learning for school. We had to reconfigure the house and our original offices in order to create a quiet workspace for each family member. I’ve been really impressed with the team effort that has shown through as we try to help each other out and make us our most productive selves.”

Robin Shapiro, Volunteer Operations Manager

Robin - Little Library

“I am super inspired by the kindness my neighbors are showing one another. We have a neighborhood chat where people are offering to go to the grocery store and pick up items for those who are vulnerable and shouldn’t go out. We are also sharing supplies of hand sanitizer and paper products with those who are running low. Neighbors are writing encouraging notes to one another in chalk on the sidewalks and many are spreading love like what is pictured.”

Molly Fast, Local Operations Director

3DAY_2020Coaches

“During my Wednesday team call with the coaches, I asked ‘What is one pleasantly surprising way COVID-19 has positively impacted your life?’ The answers all inspired me and reminded me that we are all doing the best that we can and seeking out silver linings. The answers ranged from saving money to getting a new dog to walking more to trading screen time for brain puzzles to enjoying home-cooked meals by children who aren’t normally home to becoming *more* connected to co-workers with daily video chats.”

What the 3-Day Team Loves MOST

3DAY_2017_SEA_MDER_1153

Valentine’s Day is here! That means it is a time of love and appreciation and happiness…and that doesn’t have to be only about romance. We feel SO much love throughout the year from 3-Day friends and family. That love is based in support and shared commitment, teamwork and inspiration, much of which is gained during our 60-mile journey over our 3-Day weekends throughout the year.

There is plenty of love thrown around during our time together on the 3-Day. To give you a little taste of that love during this chilly winter season, our 3-Day team is sharing what they love most about the 3-Day…and all of you!

Coach Tisho

I love the community. I have participated in a lot of other events and walks over the years and there’s no other community like ours. We call the 3-Day a FAMILY for a reason!

Coach Molly

Hands down what I love most about the 3-Day is the people who make up our amazing community. From walkers to crew to volunteers to the staff, vendors, partners, and even the strangers who come out and cheer along the route. We are so fortunate to be surrounded by so many people who are working to make the world a better place.

Stephanie from Susan G. Komen

The thing I love most about the 3-Day is that feeling you get on Sunday after the Closing Ceremony. It’s like graduation! You get to see everyone with their old and new friends, family and loved ones. It’s fun to see everyone so rightfully proud of what they’ve done.

Coach Gayla

I love the moments before the Opening Ceremony when people start arriving and they’re reuniting for the first time since last year’s 3-Day. There’s so much excitement!

Coach Amy

The 3-Day is a 60-mile-long journey, but it is also a journey of the heart. Filled with love, kindness and pure magic. On the 3-Day, you are overwhelmed and empowered in the most positive ways imaginable. You experience something that defies explanation. You are challenged, inspired, pushed harder and appreciated more than you have before. It is a magical thing and I wish I could bottle up this love and sprinkle it all year long!

Coach Staci

What do I love most about the 3-Day? It’s simple: The people!

The participants, my co-workers — we are all working together to make the world a better place.

Coach Heather

I just love how I feel when I’m at the 3-Day! The energy, love, support, compassion, sense of family…it really takes me to another level mentally! It’s a good place to spend three days!

Happy Valentine’s Day from our 3-Day team to you and your family! We hope your day is full of warmth, kindness and everything you love.

How the 3-Day Can Help Kickstart Your New Year’s Resolutions

People say it takes at least 21 days of doing something to form a habit. However, it’s also about that time that people start to slide away from the big goals they set or challenges they made for themselves. We’re coming to the end of the first month of 2020, and if your excitement over your New Year’s Resolution is starting to fade…you aren’t alone!

If you’re signed up for the 3-Day, you’ve already made strides in the right direction (even if you don’t know it)! The 3-Day can help you achieve your other 2020 goals in a variety of ways. While you train and fundraise for the big 60-mile weekend, you can also gain inspiration and motivation for additional resolutions. Here’s how…

You’ll have both long- and short-term goals

Every step of training and fundraising is an important one. That means you’ll have to set shorter term goals for yourself before you make it to the 3-Day. Your long-term goal will be to raise $2,300 (or more!) but your short-term goals will be to get that first donation, raise $100, then $500, etc. By setting weekly or monthly goals, you’ll have a feeling of accomplishment when you hit those milestones or light a fire of motivation to hit the next objective. Having short term goals allows you to track your progress and keep you in line towards hitting your ultimate aim.

You’ll be held accountable

Those short-term goals, coach check-ins, training walks and team events will help you stay accountable. Share your 3-Day goals, as well as your other resolutions, with your 3-Day friends and teammates. They will help hold you accountable and cheer you on all year long!

You’ll have a community

Whether you sign up for the 3-Day on your own, join with a friend, or become part of an existing team, you are NEVER alone on the 3-Day. You’ll find new friends and be a part of a larger new family just by participating. There are 3-Dayers who form cross-country friendships, go on team trips, and make the 3-Day part of their everyday lives. This new community will provide constant support and joy as you conquer all your goals.

You’ll have FUN while you make progress

Not all goal setting is fun. It can seem tedious or slow-going. But the 3-Day is always full of joy! So, no matter how hard you’re working, so long as you’re working alongside your 3-Day family, you’ll be having fun along the way.

What are your resolutions for 2020? Tell us in the comments so we can start creating a community of goal-setting this year! And if you haven’t signed up for the 3-Day, make today your day!
