3 Ways to Connect With the 3-Day on Facebook

In this day and age, social media might be the most common and efficient way people have to connect to each other, no matter where they call home. The 3-Day community is active across several social media platforms, but none more than Facebook, and we have three different ways that you can connect to your fellow 3-Dayers there.3DAY_2016_Social_Text_SocialIcons_Facebook

The 3-Day’s Main Facebook Page – Our main Facebook page is the best place for you to stop in and find the latest updates about the entire 3-Day series. You’ll also regularly see important links to blog posts, the 3-Day website and some information about local events such as meet-ups and training walks. This main page is THE hot-spot for all the posts we share from the 3-Day events themselves, including photos, fun video clips and, if necessary, any time-sensitive on-event updates (2015 Twin Cities camp relocation, anyone?). If you haven’t already, be sure to Like this page and select “See First” from the dropdown menu. That way, you’ll be sure the 3-Day’s posts appear in your Newsfeed and you won’t miss a thing!see first

The 3-Day Coaches Pages – In addition to the 3-Day’s main Facebook page, the 3-Day coach teams (there are 3 coaches for each event location) each have a separate Facebook page just for their event. So if, for example, you’re registered to walk in Seattle and you have a question about an upcoming workshop that you want to attend, you can get straight to the Seattle coaches on their page. These pages are especially good for announcements and info that are specific to one particular event, like host hotel info or Online Check-in deadlines. Click on the links below to get to the different coaches pages, and don’t forget to Like them too!

The 3-Day Facebook Events – We have set up Facebook events for each 2016 3-Day (think: your online invitations to the 3-Days). These Events are a terrific way to see who else is headed to your 3-Day, and to have conversations with your fellow participants. Visit the Events you’re going to, and “RSVP” so your 3-Day friends know you’ll be there!

Come See the 3-Day Coaches on Facebook

Most of you are already familiar with the 3-Day’s Facebook page, our social media hub for 3-Day information, inspiration and motivation.3DAY_2016_Social_Text_SocialIcons_Facebook

But now, we’re happy to share that we also have separate Facebook pages for the coaches in each 3-Day event location. These new coaches’ pages are great for finding info about local meet-ups and workshops, connecting with other 3-Dayers who are participating in the same events as you, and interacting with the coaches when you have questions about fundraising, training or event prep.

You can find each of the new coaches’ pages here:

Michigan 3-Day Coaches

Twin Cities 3-Day Coaches

Seattle 3-Day Coaches

Atlanta 3-Day Coaches

Philadelphia 3-Day Coaches

Dallas/Fort Worth 3-Day Coaches

San Diego 3-Day Coaches

When you click Like on the 3-Day’s Facebook page or any of the coaches’ pages, remember to also click “See First” from the drop-down menu. That way, you’ll be sure to get the 3-Day’s and the coaches’ posts in your newsfeed.see first

And of course, the coaches are still available by phone (800-996-3DAY) and email if you want to connect that way.

Headed to the 3-Day? Don’t Leave Home Without Social Media!

When I started walking in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® a decade and a half ago, the possibilities for sharing my on-event experience with loved ones back home were limited to calls home on not-so-smart cell phones and maybe showing off some snapshots to whomever happened to be around when I (maybe) pulled the photos off a clunky digital camera onto my computer. Today though, there are so many wonderful ways that Komen 3-Day participants can stay connected to their fellow 3-Day® friends, as well as their supporters in all corners of the world. Social media makes it all possible, and here’s how!

Follow Us Everywhere! – Did you know that the 3-Day is active on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram? We’ll be posting to all of these platforms, plus blogging lots of fascinating stories and important updates before, during and after each 3-Day event weekend. You’re likely to see different content on each site, so the best way to make sure you don’t miss anything is to follow the 3-Day everywhere!

Facebook Connections – When you complete Online Check-in for the 3-Day, you can sign up for Bank of America® 3-Day Connections™. This convenient service links your personal Facebook and/or Twitter accounts to an ID tag that you wear on your credential lanyard while you walk. When you (and your tag) cross sensors at certain points along the route, the Bank of America® 3-Day Connections™ system will automatically update your Facebook or Twitter status with a post. Signing up is free and easy.

Hashtags, hashtags, hashtags! – If you plan to post to social media on your own throughout the 3-Day event, be sure to add hashtags so that your posts can be grouped with other ones from the same event. At minimum, we suggest you use #The3Day and your location-specific hashtag.susan g. komen 3-Day breast cancer 60 miles walk blog hashtag social media

Instagram Photo Challenges – Each day of the 3-Day, we will hold a different themed photo challenge on Instagram, and we invite all of you 3-Day shutterbugs to join in. Post pictures that represent each day’s theme, and add the hashtag for that day (along with the other hashtags listed above, of course). At the end of each day, we’ll choose three of the themed photos to share on the 3-Day’s Instagram page.susan g. komen 3-Day breast cancer 60 miles walk blog hashtag social media instagram
