All Along the Way, Eduardo R. will be there to SUPPORT You | June—Word of the Year

Today, we’re excited to meet eight-time crew/walker, Eduardo R. Let’s learn why he chose support as his word of the year.

Tell us about your 3-Day experience.

I have walked four times (Michigan 2006, Boston 2009, Michigan 2016 and Boston 2019. I crewed six of the seven walks in 2019, and I’ve walker-stalked my wife Donna all years since 2006 that I wasn’t walking or crewing.

What is your 2021 word of the year?

SUPPORT

Why is that your word of the year?

Support is what I’ve been doing since my first walk. I needed to support my wife in this incredibly important cause. The least I could do was to be there for her. Her mom is a two-time survivor. Two years ago, my wife became a survivor. We all know someone who has been afflicted with breast cancer.

Why do you participate in the 3-Day?

To support my wife, Donna, and everyone that is involved in the 3 Day, i.e., crew, walkers, visitors.

What does the 3-Day family mean to you?

Just that—being part of a family. It is always so good to see new-found friends throughout the country. It is like a family reunion.

How does your word of the year connect to the 3-Day?

I support the Cause. My wife. Walkers. Crew. Other support personnel.

If you could share a message with the Pink Bubble, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to get involved. It will be a life-long experience. My very first walk was the single most emotional event I had up to that point. I boo-hooed like a child at closing ceremony.

We’re so grateful for Eduardo’s support, and we hope you take a moment today to recognize those who support you along your journey. Send the text or email. Call them. Post on their wall. Show them you are grateful.

For our next “Word of the Year” blog post, meet Kathy R. H. and hear why she chose faith as her word.

Tell me about your 3-Day experience.

I started walking in the 3-Day in 2004. I walked all 16 walks in the Twin Cities. In 2017, my team helped me celebrate my 20-year Cancerversary by walking the San Diego 3-Day. I continued walking in San Diego in 2018 and 2019 as well. In total, I am proud to have walked in 19 3-Day walks.

What is your 2021 word of the year

FAITH

Why is that your word of the year?

Since my cancer journey began in 1997, I have consistently been focused on Keeping the FAITH! Faith represents a commitment to positivity, gratitude, strength, and determination. While not one of us can predict what tomorrow brings, I believe that having FAITH is key to facing each day.

Why do you participate in the 3-Day?

I participate in the 3-Day as a 23-year 2x breast cancer survivor for me, for my kids, and for my family. I participate in memory of those we have lost, in support of those who are fighting and for those who are survivors. I participate and will continue to participate as long as I am able with FAITH and HOPE that one day we won’t need to walk because we will find a CURE.

What does the 3-Day family mean to you?

The 3-Day family, my 3-Day family, means the world to me. Each and every walker, crew member, volunteer, and staff member inspires me to be a better person. Our family not only supports each other at walk time but helps celebrate successes and provides prayers and support during challenging times. We may not all be related by blood, but we are the true definition of family!

How does your word of the year connect to the 3-Day?

The commitment we see from our 3-Day family and our supporters proves to me that we all have FAITH that one day we will find a cure. Our FAITH in what we are doing gives us the strength to keep the fight going. We see the impact we are having, and we all have committed to never giving up!

If you could share a message with the Pink Bubble, what would it be?

A heartfelt thank you from me to you! I see you, I hear you, I fight with you, and I CARE! Your dedication to the cause is inspiring. While life looks different right now and we have yet again been told the 3-Day events have been impacted by the pandemic, I believe our Pink Bubble is stronger than ever. We continue to show up, even from afar, to help fight this horrible disease. We come together and walk 60 miles, event after event, because we know our fundraising is making a difference. Many of us will hopefully be together in San Diego in November, but no matter what happens, please have FAITH in our cause and continue the fight.  I am filled with gratitude for each of you!

3-Day family, your faith and commitment to finding a cure constantly inspires us. What is helping you keep the faith this year?
